The Flying Squirrel Lodge Reviews
We stayed at The Flying Squirrel Lodge for a Middle School Basketball Championship at State College.
There were a group of us; including the children, teens and adults.
Everyone LOVED the lodge for many different reasons:
Adults:
– CLEAN x100, there was no window sill dust, no yucky feeling when you pulled out the trash, no gross feeling around the beds…this place was immaculate!
– The bedding was Brooklinen (which is high end/top of the line/$$$ bedding
– The Coffee Bar was STOCKED, multiple brewers, all the accessories one may need etc.
– The pellet stove was such a beautiful lodge touch that made everyone feel at home
– Ice makers in the kitchen and the bar
– Paper plates and cups and napkins and garbage bags and laundry soaps and bath towels and dishwasher pods and paper towels…all included
– A complimentary tote bag, 2 bags of coffee, a mug and a bottle of wine!!! All W/ the Flying Squirrel Logo, so cute. Thank you!
– Did I mention the place was super clean?!?
Teens:
– The loft- like their very own private quarters with a TV
– Cornhole boards
– Lots of space to lounge and find privacy
Kids:
– Loved the bunk room!
– Loved the game room!!
– Loved reading the guest book!!!
It was just an absolutely great place! 40 min drive to campus—-5 minutes to a mini mart/gas station, 5 minutes to a Dollar General, local pizza place (Paisanos) delivered to us…

“My wife and I met several friends at the Flying Squirrel Lodge this past weekend. It was the perfect place to gather for lots of cooking, catching up with friends by the pellet wood burning fireplace, and watching the kids play together. The Hosts truly thought of everything from unique wood carved furniture, an extremely well-equipped kitchen and coffee bar, comfortable bedding, games, music lounge, bar and much more. They had ice makers, nature photography and towel warmers among other luxury amenities which all added up to a very fun weekend with friends. “Flying Squirrel Lodge is beautiful. It is quiet and peaceful with plenty to do at the Lodge and in the surrounding area. Our hosts were superb. They made sure we had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. They were easy to reach for questions and helped us patiently get all of our questions answered. We used the fire pit one night and it was absolutely breathtaking sitting outside under the beautiful night sky with a warm fire burning. Our hosts thought of everything from a well stocked kitchen which made cooking fun, to the espresso machine which got used all of the time, to the activity rooms where fun games were played and family movies were watched. This truly was one of the best Airbnb’s I have had the pleasure of visiting. I would go back in a heartbeat.” – Mary

“Wow…Amazing stay at this dream house with my wonderful group of friends.. I can’t find words..Faboulus place, faboulus hosts.When you arrive you will be excited to explore. .We loved every bit of 5 days we spent in Heidi and Dan’s house. The location, front yard with fire pit, a beautiful deck, well stocked kitchen, coffee bar with any kind of coffee you can ever imagine, the game room, the music box..everything is absolutely top-notch and made in a most luxurious way and you can tell its all made with love..
Beds and pillows were so comfy, my husband who always complains about mattresses said he had the best sleep and woke up so rested.
We fell in love with every little detail in this place. Having Thanksgiving dinner on the most beautiful and unique dinner table made by host and seeing all hand crafted items around the house, even all the landscape and wild life photos host Dan himself had taken and displayed made our stay extra special. We found ourselves constantly saying ‘wow’. Our group agreed it was one of the best airbnb’s we ever stayed at. They put so much thought and attention to so many things..We even got a personal tour by host to show all the amenities.
I am in love with birds and my favorite thing was waking up to beautiful coffee and watch different kind of wild birds coming to bird feeders..
We had 6 kids and they had absolutely amazing time.We made memories that will last forever..
Dan and Heidi are super hosts, super responsive. Communication with the them was very pleasant and they were so quick to respond and they were very clear with instructions for check in and check out.. A big thanks to them making our stay extra special. Can’t say enough about this gem.. Life is a beautiful ride and Dan and Heidi’s place made this ride extra special and more beautiful..

Heidi and Dan have thought of every detail – from luxurious bedding, to beautiful, well-appointed baths, and a well-equipped kitchen, which includes an impressive coffee bar. We were in town to celebrate our son’s wedding and there was plenty of space for family and friends to gather afterwards, both inside and out. “Our stay at FSL was beyond anything we could have imagined. Heidi met us at the home for check in to give us the grand tour and did not miss a beat – including a swag bag for us to take home! Everything was so clean & welcoming. The kitchen was a dream, fully equipped with everything you might need to entertain. Our bedding was second to none, SO COMFY! “Flying Squirrel Lodge is hidden paradise. When decorating this cabin no expense was spared, from the impressive coffee bar to the towel warmer it feels better than being at your own home! Great location to enjoy outdoors activities while still having convenience of stores near by for forgotten items. The lodge was so clean, it felt like we were first people to stay there. Heidi and Dan have seemed to think of everything for any guests. We were able to enjoy the large fire pit, the game room, the deck and the kitchen in our short stay. “My husband and I chose The Flying Squirrel Lodge to have or intimate family wedding at. We were a bit nervous as we hadn’t seen the property in advance, however Heidi was very accommodating with extra photos of the property when asked. They even planted extra grass seed before our stay to make sure it looked great for our special day!
The lodge itself is stunning, the decor is amazing and eye catching. The beds are comfortable, the linens feel very luxurious. Heidi and Dan definitely had comfort and attention to detail in mind when creating this space. The photography is breathtaking, I found myself lost in a lot of the photos decorating the walls of the house. There are TVs in every room, although we spent most of our time outside and only used the music channels, it’s a great amenity if the weather isn’t great.
The outside property is where we spent most of our time, it was so peaceful and calming. Then fire pit is an excellent gathering place for conversation and catching up with family, we used it both nights we stayed. The property itself is quiet and secluded, but close enough to town that we were able to run out for last minute things without issue.
Everyone we ran into in and around town were exceptionally friendly, Heidi and Dan couldn’t have found a better place for a getaway.
I spent a lot of time stressing about not having enough decorations for the wedding ceremony, but once I saw the property I knew that the nature outside was enough. It was perfect, we set up our homemade arbor in the yard surrounded by trees, we were more than pleased.
Our families raved about how perfectly relaxing and beautiful the lodge was and how they’d be back! I would suggest making sure you have plenty of people to keep eyes on little ones if you bring them! There are a lot of things they can disturb. I’d also suggest staying more than a weekend to really settle in and enjoy the peace and relaxation. I can’t think of anything thing I would change about the lodge, we had a wonderful time, we made long lasting memories there!” – Montana

The house is gorgeous and the decor is stunning; again, it’s apparent so much thought went into each choice. The house has so much swag not normally offered in an Airbnb rental; professional coffee bar with your choice of flavor, custom fire pit that accommodates all your family and friends, the game room that’s stocked but tucked away- the list goes on! I mean, a towel warmer, really? I didn’t want to leave!!
My family had an amazing time and we are definitely coming back. I felt pampered and well rested at the end of my vacation- full of laughs and love.

“This home was above and beyond our expectations! So many extras that made our stay extra special! It is a beautiful home, but it has a comfortable feel as well! Plenty of space for the 11 people we had – 2 families with their adult children! This home had something for everyone to enjoy! The coffee bar area blew us away – lots of espresso and cappuccinos made! The only downside was that we were in the area for a wedding so we didn’t have the full time to enjoy the home and property. The hosts were very responsive to questions and requests and were wonderful to work with! Be prepared to by blown away by this place!” – Sara
“Amazing! Heidi and Dan truly have thought of everything you might need or want while staying in their gorgeous cabin.
Even though the weather was rainy nearly the whole weekend that we stayed, our trip was still a delight! There were plenty of board games to keep us busy; the kids (and adults!) loved the arcade games; sitting by the warmth of pellet stove was lovely; and the kitchen table — we all fit with room to spare!
As a family of artists and photographers, we found the wall decor a particular delight!

“Beautiful inside and out! Our family had the privilege of staying at The Flying Squirrel Lodge to celebrate my father-in-laws 75th birthday this past weekend. Check in was a breeze and Dan Berg gave us a phenomenal overview of the property when we arrived. The FSL was fully stocked with outstanding amenities like a full coffee bar, Weber gas grill with extra propane, fire pit with wood and kindling, game room with PS4 and a multi-cade arcade system (a huge hit with the kiddos!!!). The property was immaculate from top to bottom. Would definitely love to stay here again and would recommend it to anyone looking for a quiet retreat with plenty to do.” – John H.

“The Flying Squirrel Lodge. The hosts were truly wonderful and their home is stunning! It really had all that we needed and more. Our adult children loved the coffee bar, and our grandchildren loved playing the games. We were a short distance to Raystown Lake where we enjoyed some hiking and the water. Each morning we were entertained by the squirrels trying to eat from the bird feeders and had a visit by a doe on the hill. After our time at the lake playing corn hole was a must,, and a campfire with smores ended out our day. Really just a relaxing place to enjoy our time together! We’d love to come back again sometime! “Beautiful and convenient location with lots of amenities. We had a great time at the Flying Squirrel Lodge for a group getaway. The place was kid and adult friendly with lots of activities (arcade machine, playstation, TV in every room, board games, etc.) and had a fully stocked kitchen with everything we could think of. The location was very convenient – secluded enough to have the kids scream and run around as they pleased but also close enough to shops and Raystown Lake for any quick needs and outdoor activities.
Dan and Heidi were wonderful as hosts and were very attentive to our needs (which was not much as the place had what we needed already). The lodge itself was spacious to host three families and had a great patio and a firepit where we spent quite a bit of time.
In all, we were very happy with our stay and the kids didn’t want to leave! Thanks to Dan and Heidi for making this stay a memorable one for us. We hope to come back here again!” – Sathya S.
“Great Place for Family Getaway. We had a great time. The place was stocked with amenities, more than I’ve ever experienced. The coffee situation alone was insane. The beds were super comfortable. The hosts were very responsive. The location is quite remote, but within 15 minutes of grocery shopping, etc., just be aware that the internet is not great and it is capped, so don’t plan on streaming movies for kids, etc. (just bring DVDs, downloads, etc.)

“Family Reunion with parents and siblings with spouses. This was the BEST rental experience we’ve had for a long time. The property is absolutely beautiful inside and out. We had ten adults and had more than enough room to gather and socialize on the gorgeous deck, in the great room, by the fire pit, and in the really FUN game room and downstairs bar area. When we wanted privacy, each bedroom was appointed with its own big screen TV. The custom woodwork throughout is the cherry on top of a fabulous property. We can’t say enough about the owners Dan and Heidi! They were so warm and welcoming. Their communications with us after we made the reservation made us feel like family before we even arrived. They met us at the house when we checked in and gave us a tour. Their pride in ownership and their passion about sharing it with others was infectious. It is clear they have put their heart and soul into this property! It is very reasonably priced and its proximity to the Lake Raystown area and State College made it a perfect location for all of us to easily come together. “Lovely, Lavish Gem in Central PA. The Flying Squirrel Lodge was one of the best renting experiences we’ve encountered. The lodge is immaculate, every room has high-end finishes and we were blown away by the beauty of the lodge. The walls are covered in breathtaking nature photographs taken by the owners. Cooking in the kitchen was a breeze, it was fully stocked with everything we needed. We spent one evening relaxing out at the fire pit enjoying the peacefulness of seclusion. The coffee bar was also a fun treat each morning and afternoon.
